Product Research

Step 01

Customer's POV

While developing our idea for the solution we were looking on how to integrate UOB into our product seamlessly. This led us to think from the customer’s point of view when they sign up for a card.

Step 02

Jackpot?

While analysing, we realised that whenever customers sign up for an account with UOB, they tend to also apply for a debit or credit card. And that is where we came up with the idea of selling card holders to our customers.

Step 03

First challenge

But we were met with a problem. That is, most card holders were either made up of real or synthetic leather, both of which are not sustainable. To find out if youths are using these materials, we conducted polls on Instagram and confirmed out that almost 80% of youths use leather/ synthetic products.

Step 04

Leather Research

Turning animal skin into leather requires massive amounts of energy and dangerous chemicals, leather is also more sensitive to fluctuations in temperature which makes it harder to maintain. And the chemicals used pollutes waterways, soil and is carcinogenic for workers.

Step 05

Synthetic Leather Research

Although its synthetic brother is thought to be more eco-friendly as it does not involve animal suffering, synthetic leather is unsustainable and non biodegradable, it is made out of polyester which is toxic and it contains plastics which is not good for the environment.

Step 06

Secondary Research Conclusion

Hence, we explored leather alternatives ranging from canvas, apple skin and cork leather, and decided to gather the survey results from the youths in SP to decide what product would best suit students’ needs
